Maps/travel guides:

Road Atlas: Adventure Edition (I bought this atlas through National Geographic’s site for Tim’s Valentine’s present! It was a good purchase. Not only does it have the typical highways and byways, it also highlights Forest Service lands, BLM, National Parks, National Monuments, and more.)

Hiking New Mexico by Laurence Parent. We carried this book around the state. It is much more comprehensive than a typical travel guide.
Frommer’s Guide to Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque. I bought this book last summer before our first trip to Santa Fe. It’s a good basic guide to help appreciate the area before and during your trip.

Apps:

All-Stays: ($10). An invaluable resource for campgrounds, Wal-Marts, gas stations, truck stops, etc. This app was essential for us.

Google Maps: Downloaded areas in advance when we knew internet would be spotty.

Yelp: Helpful for recommendations in random places. We use this app all the time, from Maine to Wyoming.

To come: Travel tips we’ve found helpful (van and non-van), travel books/websites, places to visit in the US and elsewhere.
